Aims & Objectives
- The Aims and Objectives of Malaysian Gurdwaras Council (M.G.C), amongst others, consist of the following:
- To act as a representative of all the Gurdwaras in Malaysia.
- To promote, preserve and maintain Sikh religion, Sikh identity, Sikh culture and Sikh heritage.
- To co-ordinate and promote understanding, fellowship, mutual respect and co-operation among Sikh Gurdwaras and other Sikh Organizations and facilitate functional integration for service to the Panth as per the "SIKH REHAT MARYADA" and to pass "MATAS" on important issues after due consideration.
- To mobilize resources and serve as a central forum, for the purposes of serving the religious, cultural, social, educational and economic interests of the Sikhs while maintaining the full awareness, respect and esteem of the Sikh tenets.
- To respect, maintain and implement independence of Sikh Gurdwaras.
- To look after the interests of the Sikh Community with particular reference to religious freedom and rights as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
- To inculcate and promote the teachings of the Ten Gurus and the eternal principles enshrined in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
- To preserve propagate uphold the practice the Sikh Religion in accordance with established Sikh Practices and Rehat Maryada.
- To promote, establish and run religious, educational, social and charitable institutions.
- To establish Libraries, Reading Rooms and resources centres to disseminate knowledge.
- To organize and hold conferences, symposiums, forums, workshops, samelans and diwans.
- If so required with prior approval of the authorities concerned, to establish, print and distributed newspapers, newsletters, periodicals pamphlets, journals, magazines, cassettes, video tapes and in any other communicative form.
- To represent the Sikh Community in Malaysia on all matters pursuant to this Constitution.
- To consult and work with Government and non-Government (religious and secular) bodies at all administrative levels on matters pursuant to this constitution.
- To advise and help in the administration and preservation of Gurdwaras if and when necessary.
- To help settle disputes, with prior consent of the parties concerned.
- To foster understanding and goodwill towards Malaysians of all creeds, persuasions and faiths in the multi-racial and multi-cultural mosaic of the Malaysian society.
- To raise funds from members as well as from the public by all lawful means. To raise or borrow for the purposes of the MGC any sum or sums of money either upon the security of the property of the MGC or otherwise.
- To make rules, regulations and bye-laws.
- To acquire moveable and immovable properties.
- To develop programmes, facilities and procedures to fulfill the objectives of the MGC.
- To do all such things not inconsistent ethic the doctrines and ethics of Sikhism (Sikh Rehat Maryada).
